Frequently asked questions

Short answers grouped by topic—editing, signing, sharing, accounts, and storage.

Editing & PDFs

Can I edit password-protected PDFs?

Yes. Enter the password to unlock; editing stays disabled until unlock succeeds.

Does print work for protected PDFs?

Yes. While locked, print uses the original PDF stream; after unlock you can print the edited version.

Do you support merge and split?

Yes. Combine PDFs into one file or split by page ranges from the editor.

Request Sign & share links

What is Request Sign?

Multi-party signing from your library: add signers by email, place fields on the PDF, then send.

Each signer gets a private link, fills only their fields in the browser, and submits. When everyone finishes, you get a flattened signed PDF and a read-only link to view, print, or download.

Do people I invite to sign need an OtterPDF account?

No. They use the link from email and never need to register.

Can I resend signing invitations?

Yes. On the prepare page, resend the same private link to anyone who has not finished yet.

What happens when signing is complete?

OtterPDF stores a flattened PDF (it counts toward your quota) and emails you a read-only link.

Anyone with that link can open the signed copy in the browser—share it only with people who should have it.

What are view-only share links?

From the editor you can turn on a read-only link so others open the file in the browser without editing.

This is separate from Request Sign: it is for sharing your file as it lives in your workspace, not the signing workflow.

Accounts, storage & workspace

What storage limit do accounts get?

Free includes 100 MB. Plus is £1.99/month for 10 GB — same features, higher quota only. Usage appears on the dashboard and in Files.

The total covers uploads, saved versions, and each completed Request Sign’s stored flattened PDF (kept separately from the original but in the same allowance).

Can I organize files into folders?

Yes. Create folders, color-tag and rename them, and move files one-by-one or in bulk.

Do I need an account to try the editor?

No. Use guest mode first. Sign up when you want saved files, versions, Request Sign, and share links.

Can I save multiple versions of one document?

Yes. Save versions as you work and return to an earlier state when you need to.

What is the activity log?

Signed-in users open Activity to see recent account actions (uploads, edits, organization, and more), with pagination for long lists.

I used guest mode first—can my files move to my new account?

After email verification, eligible guest files can move into your account. If something is missing, re-upload from the device that created the guest session.
